An Anomalous Muscle in the Forearm Extensor Compartment
نویسندگان
چکیده
The presence of additional muscles in the forearm extensor compartment is frequently encountered during surgical procedures and anatomical dissections. There are several types of anomalous muscles such as the extensor indicis proprius, the extensor digitorum brevis manus, the extensor medii proprius, and the extensor indicis et medii communis that have been previously reported in the medical literature. In this case study, we have observed an anomalous muscle in the forearm extensor compartment that originated from the proximal one-third of the ulna and was found to be inserted into the tip of the styloid process of the radius. The probable clinical and embryological significance of the present case is discussed herein.

An Anatomical Variation of Extensor Indicis Muscle: A Case Report
The extensor indicis is a narrow, elongated skeletal muscle in the deep layer of the dorsal forearm that originates from the one third of the distal posterior surface of the shaft of ulna below the origin of the extensor pollicis longos and interosseous membrane. It runs through the fourth tendon compartment with the extensor digitorum under the extensor retinaculum. The extensor indicis joins ...

Background: The Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus (ECRL) and the Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis (ECRB) are muscles of the posterior forearm compartment. variations in this area of the forearm are common and are usually diagnosed during surgery. Sometimes these variations are symptomatic and can be helpful in clinical procedures such as surgery. Diagnosis and identification of abnormalities can be ...

متن کاملForearm compartment syndrome: anatomical analysis of surgical approaches to the deep space.
Forearm compartment syndrome is a surgical emergency that usually requires release of the superficial muscle compartments. In some clinical situations it is imperative to also explore the deep muscle compartments. There are no anatomical guides for surgical exploration of the deep compartments that would minimize collateral damage to surrounding vessels, nerves, and muscles. Surgical injury in ...
متن کاملBilateral extensor medii proprius with split tendon of extensor indicis proprius, a rare anatomical variant.
The extensor medii proprius (EMP) is anomalous extensor muscle of the hand. During the routine dissection of a 78-year-old Chinese male cadaver, bilateral EMP and extensor indicis proprius (EIP) were observed in the upper limbs. The EMP originated from the distal third of the ulna and its tendon was inserted into the dorsal aponeurosis of the middle finger on both hands. The tendon of EIP was s...
